How Kihei Arrests Are Handled
Kihei is a census-designated place, not an incorporated town. The 2020 Census counted 21,423 residents. That ranks second among the three mapped Maui County population centers. Kihei runs no municipal police force, jail, or booking database of its own. MPD District VI patrols South Maui, covering Maalaea, Kihei, Wailea, and Makena. The Kihei station handles patrol contact, while booking and records stay with countywide MPD.
Which source helps depends on timing. District VI may handle the incident itself. Prisoner Booking & Receiving can speak to a named person's recent MPD processing. A transfer to Maui Community Correctional Center shifts custody to state DCR. Hawaii SAVIN/VINELink then tracks that person. Court filings and final outcomes belong to the Hawaii Judiciary. None of these forms a complete Kihei arrest list.
Kihei District VI Arrest Routing
The Kihei Police Station sits at 2201 Piilani Highway, Kihei, HI 96753. Its published line is (808) 875-8190. The countywide MPD non-emergency number, (808) 244-6400, also routes calls. Neither number works as an online roster. Station staff may also be limited in what they can share about a person or an open case.
Location alone doesn't tell you who made the arrest. State or federal officers may be involved. The arresting agency can differ from the eventual custodian. When asking for direction, give the full name, incident location, and approximate date and time. The District VI label marks patrol geography, not a separate Kihei records office. The MPD Uniformed Services Bureau lists Kihei as District VI.
The county page confirms the South Maui district contact.
Where Kihei Recent Arrests Appear
No Kihei blotter or roster exists. There is no mugshot gallery either. Official sources come first because each has a defined owner and purpose, and news can add context but never fill gaps in an official record.

MPD's News and Events feed posts selected public-safety items. There is no fixed booking window or arrest field. Silence only means no matching post was published.
Finding Someone Arrested in Kihei
Start with the event, not a broad name list. Gather the legal name, likely incident date, time, place, and agency. Similar names can attach an arrest to the wrong person otherwise. Then move from newest stage to final court result.
- Call the Kihei station for District VI routing, or use the countywide non-emergency line when the agency is uncertain.
- Ask MPD Prisoner Booking & Receiving about a specific person if police processing is recent.
- Search Hawaii SAVIN/VINELink if transfer to DCR custody is possible; record the search time and exact status.
- Search eCourt Kōkua for a filed case, then use the Second Circuit clerk when public results are incomplete.
- Submit a focused MPD request when the actual report or eligible photo is needed.
Someone can be arrested and released before any DCR entry appears. A cellblock hold may fall outside SAVIN's scope. MCCC is state-run, not a Kihei sheriff jail. Federal or immigration custody goes through BOP and ICE locators. Each has different fields and limits. Note: A no-result screen shows only one source's status at that moment and cannot establish that no Kihei arrest occurred.
Kihei Arrest Record Requests
District VI keeps no public request portal of its own. The MPD Records Section in Wailuku handles county police reports. It works through the Maui County Police Reports process. Options there include GovQA, mail, and fax. The instructions also ask for an email address, phone number, and clear government-issued photo ID.
Describe an existing record. Include an incident number if you have one. Or use the name, date, Kihei location, and event type. A qualified person may get broader access than an unrelated requester. This can be someone involved or an authorized representative. Third-party copies can arrive redacted. Investigative, privacy, juvenile, or expungement limits may also apply.
- State whether the request seeks a preliminary report, complete report, or booking photograph.
- Give details that let Records locate the file without creating a new custom list.
- Submit through GovQA, mail, or fax and confirm current fees on the county page.
- Compare any charge description with the later Judiciary disposition.

Kihei Booking Photo Access
Hawaii OIP has treated county-police booking photos as government records in its opinion, subject to exemptions and case-specific review. That does not require posting every photo online. MPD has stepped back from publishing names and mugshots in ordinary releases, since online material can persist after dismissal or acquittal. An official image may still appear when MPD seeks public help or flags a safety need. That exception is not a gallery. Request a specific existing photograph from Records. Name the date and agency. Expect possible redaction or withholding. The wider Maui booking-photo treatment explains the official access boundary.
Kihei Arrest News and Gaps
Maui Now offers the best ongoing arrest coverage on the island. The Maui News prints a mix of local crime and courtroom stories. Hawaii News Now and KITV pick up bigger Maui cases now and then. No outlet tracks Kihei bookings day by day. A news photo proves nothing here. It is not evidence that MPD publishes booking photos.
The big mugshot aggregators fall short for Maui County. RecentlyBooked lists Honolulu instead. A Kauai page on Mugshots.com has nothing to do with Kihei. JailExchange does carry a Maui directory for MCCC. Yet it is unofficial, and it can lag behind reality. Treat it as a lead. It is not proof of who is in custody.
News still has real value. It gives you dates, named agencies, and early case details. Take what you learn to MPD for the arrest facts. Then check eCourt for how the case ended. First reports move fast, and later outcomes can change everything.
Kihei Arrest Case Dispositions
The Hawaii Judiciary access page walks you through eCourt Kōkua. It covers everything from basic case details to the documents you can pull. The system has gaps, though. Some older records never made it online. Others sit under confidentiality rules. When a case will not appear, the cause could be a late filing, a sealed record, limited coverage, or a typo in your search.
Staff at the Second Circuit can point Maui cases in the right direction. A disposition is simply the court's final word on a case. It deserves the same attention as the arrest itself. Write down its date. Hawaii also allows expungement of some nonconviction arrests through the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center, while sealing follows Judiciary rules. An old headline should never outweigh a corrected legal status.
